There are the classical or Kamasan paintings named for the village of Kamasan near Semarapura,these are also called Wayang Style.The Ubud Style of painting developed in 1930s,with the influence of the Pita Maha artistsf style developed in 1960s,influenced by Dutch artist.Then,the modern or eAcademicf style can be loosely defined as anything that doesnft fall into the main Balinese categories.

| Two artists from German and Holland lived in Ubud,and they painted Balinese rural scenes.There are some variants of the main Ubud and young artists styles.The depiction of flowers,,birds,butterflies,forests and other naturalistic themes,called Pengosekan style,become popular in 1960s,but can probably be traced back to Henri Rousseau who was a significant influence on Walter Spies.An interesting development of this style in the depiction of underwater scenes with coral gardens,colourful fish and some sea creatures. |
